Mentee Application Form

MentorWave aims to facilitate knowledge and experience sharing within our industry, through a collaborative and experiential process of mentorship. This mentorship program is supported by the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and YoungShip Cyprus, at no cost to the mentees. If you are interested in enhancing your self development path sign up to be a mentee!  

Limited number of mentee slots are available, therefore they will be assigned on first-come-first-serve basis, to the applicants who fulfill the applicable requirements.

Mentee Requirements (at least 1):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a maritime related field and minimum 3 months’ employment within a maritime related organisation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field and minimum 1 year working experience in a maritime related organisation.

  • Significant experience in the maritime industry: A mentor should have a deep understanding of the maritime industry, including its various sectors, roles, and challenges. This experience can be gained through working in the industry, or through consulting or volunteering.

  • Knowledge of the maritime industry’s regulatory environment: The maritime industry is highly regulated, and it is important for mentors to be familiar with the latest regulations and requirements. This will help them to ensure that their mentees are compliant and safe.

  • Knowledge of the latest maritime technologies: The maritime industry is constantly evolving, and it is important for mentors to be aware of the latest technologies and trends. This will help them to prepare their mentees for the future.

  • Ability to navigate the maritime industry’s culture: The maritime industry has a unique culture, and it is important for mentors to be able to navigate this culture effectively. This includes being able to understand and respect the different values and perspectives of people from different backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of the mentee’s career goals: A mentor should take the time to understand the mentee’s career goals and aspirations. This will help the mentor to provide tailored guidance and support.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills: The mentor should be able to communicate effectively with the mentee, and build a trusting relationship. This includes being able to listen actively, provide feedback, and offer encouragement.

  • Ability to share knowledge and experience: The mentor should be able to share their knowledge and experience with the mentee concisely. This includes being able to explain complex concepts, and to provide practical advice.

  • Commitment to the mentee’s development: The mentor should be committed to helping the mentee to develop their skills, knowledge, and confidence. This includes being supportive and encouraging and providing opportunities for growth.
